James Price Point: Govt says a one in 10,000 year chance of an oil spill reaching Cable beach!

16 February, 2011

Conservation group, Environs Kimberley says an oil spill could quickly reach Broome's Cable beach and spread over 200 kilometres of coastline if an LNG plant is located at James Price Point.  But the government says there is a once in a 10,000 year chance of an oil spill reaching Cable beach. This was reported on The West Australian Newspaper website yesterday.

Who would you believe?

Do you believe a government that says that "proper management strategies" can prevent damage to the land and marine environment?

Are they saying that an event like the Montara oil disaster is unlikely to ever happen?

I would love to believe this, but commonsense tells me that this is just plain rubbish!

Hi Paul, i finally got to your website! also, i'm not sure i answered your email the other day... its all a bit of a blur. Nice site, and lots of excellent images, well done.
On the topic of James Price Point, i think the obvious question would be why is the Premier of WA acting like the lobbyist for the Multinational billion dollar company Woodside, rather than the elected representative of the people of WA?
I think we have all seen enough "worlds best practise" to know its all just spin and lies. These guys dont care about the possibility of any oil spills, or accidents, or destroyed marine environments... there is billions of dollars to be made! what a little environmental damage and destruction when the profits are so high?

Department of State Development's Gail McGowan says it would never happen, this same women travelled around the Damiper peninsula informing the indigenous communities that gas refineries never blow up and even when people were laughing at her, she continued pushing these lies. This same women told the media last week, that there were no dinosaur footprints at James Price Point and the same time hiding the fact that the National Heritage has nominated this site for national heritage. Is she a public servant for the people of W Australia or a proxy for the multinationals
