It's Springtime

1 September, 2012

Hey it's springtime, can you believe it?

Yes, already!

I just happened to be looking out the kitchen window and noticed that our kangaroo paws are out.  So I quickly grabbed the camera and shot this...

If you're not familiar with the kangaroo paw then you wouldn't be blamed for thinking that this is rather different  Well it is unusual but very beautiful though, isn't it?  There are quite a number of varieties of kangaroo paw, but this one has to be my favourite.

Normally I like shooting flowers in subdued light, but the early morning backlighting works really well I think for a subject like this - the sunlight picking out the texture and the colour.

So if you're wanting to shoot some kangaroo paws, now is the time to do it, and shoot early in the morning too.

Shot on a Canon 5D Mark II, 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM lens.
