A Wheat Bin Could Be Bigger Than A Football Oval

22 April, 2012

On the drive back from Esperance to Hopetoun, I took the Jerdacuttup Road, and stopped to check out the wheat bin there.  There was no one around, so I took the liberty of having a bit of a wander.  What I found was quite amazing.

This shot is of the inside of the Jerdacuttup Wheat Bin.

The pattern of the roof structure grabbed me.  That tractor on the left gives you an idea of just how big this bin is, and it is by no means any bigger than the average down in our Wheatbelt in the Great Southern.

This has got me thinking... I might like to do a project on things rural.

Thanks Sue.
It's great to hear from you. That's quite an adventure, driving across the Nullabor... twice!
I agree, there is so much in rural Australia. This rural project might be one that is either long-running or in multiple parts. Looking forward to it.
Cheers...Paul

rural

Great idea Paul, my daughter and I have returned from a 6,500 round trip drive across the nullabor!
I love your photo of the wheat bin and I am sure a rural project would bring some joy and relief to people in rural areas, especially the farmers who are struggling.
Your photo captures some of the rare beauty that is so much a part of daily life in rural areas...and there is sooooo much more out there. All the best.
PS We visited the markets in Adelaide and there was Carline behind the counter...she was very busy..so our chat was brief. She is as sparky as ever and it was fabulous to see her. She has plans to come west later on in the year if she can. She also sends her regards to everyone.
Cheers
Sue Hardy
