Powerful, Passionate and Provocative Photo Exhibition in Perth

31 March, 2012

The Power and The Passion photo exhibition on James Price Point opened in Perth last night.

Having seen it for myself, I have to say that this is an exhibition that is definitely filled with power and passion.  But in addition, it is quite provocative indeed.  I'm talking about the clever use of yellow as well as red and white barricade tape all over the entry leading you into the exhibition hall with the words "CAUTION".

As you enter the exhibition hall, you are greeted with moving images of what is now notoriously known as Black Tuesday, the day the Police moved in to break up the "protesters" at James Price Point (Walmadan), the defenders of country.  These photos, many of which produced in black and white, provide a photo-journalistic account of Black Tuesday.

After you wind through this entry, you are transitioned into the main exhibition hall where numerous large landscape images hang.  These images show off the ancient but humble beauty that the Kimberley region of Western Australia is widely known for.  And this is it.  This is the branding that the Kimberley risks losing if Woodside Energy is allowed to build its gas processing plant at James Price Point, on a precious beach just 40km north of Broome.

Thus the theme of 'The Power and The Passion'.

The opening night was very well attended with probably over 300 attendees.

In this picture above, Aboriginal elders welcome everyone of the exhibition.

Landscape photographer Adam Monk seen here with Bike To Broomer, Eve Chaloupka - ok, the truth is I made them pose together here, I just had to grab this photo of Adam and Eve!

Legendary landscape photographer, Christian Fletcher, here with a composite image of vines and an aerial shot of the rig that has been performing "testing" just a couple of hundred metres from the cliffs of James Price Point.

There are some truly magic images on display here by renown Western Australian photographers Christian Fletcher, Adam Monk, Nigel Gaunt, Rod Hartvigsen, David Bettini, Danish photographer Flemming Bo Jensen, and others.  My contribution to this exhibition is a composite of the portraits of each member of the Bike To Broome team on a duotone backdrop of the cliffs of James Price Point.

Get yourself down to the exhibition.  You would be wise not to miss this!
