Getting Ready for the James Price Point Exhibition in Sydney
The eleven framed photos that I shall be exhibiting in the James Price Point Exhibition have arrived in Sydney today.
The exhibition runs from Monday 17 October to Sunday 23 October 2011 at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst. Sydney artist and Bike To Broome rider, Sobrane Simcock, is exhibiting a collection of her photos with me. The aim of this exhibition is to raise awareness nationally of what is at risk - the industrialisation of the Kimberley, starting with the Woodside gas hub.
This very spot where I shot this photo below, right at James Price Point (traditionally known as Walmadan) will be destroyed. Just metres from this spot, dinosaur footprints from millions of years ago exist. A 50 square kilometre dead zone is to be created by dredging the seabed to allow LNG ships to dock. The Lurrujari Heritage Trail that runs along this stretch of coastline, which forms a section of the traditional song-lines, will be inaccessible - and traditional history will begin to be lost.
The official opening is on Thursday 20 October 2011 at 6:00pm. If you're in Sydney, do come along to check out some amazing images of the Kimberley.
