Update on the around-the-clock bike ride to Broome

19 May, 2011

This is the most exciting thing on my calendar this year.  The ride will take place on Sunday August 21, 2011.  Coinciding with the annual north-bound migration of humpback whales from the Antartic Ocean to their calving grounds around Camden Sound in the Kimberley, our tandem bike will take the coastal highway from Perth to Broome.  I reckon the ride would take around five and a half days.

It'll be great fun.  But of course, the serious side of this event is to raise the awareness of the plight of the sea creatures that make this part of the world so special, the humpback whales, the threatened snubfin dolphins, dugongs, turtles, and of course the coral reefs and other flora.

Let's give them a voice.  Say "NO" to the gas hub.  The gas can go elsewhere.

So please support the cause.  We'll have a new website dedicated to the Bike To Broome project up and running soon!  I'll keep you posted.

Bike to Broome project

Hello Paul.

A fantastic plan!! I've looked at your departure date and I'm keen to join you as a rider if you're still looking for people (I'd fly from Broome to be with you from the start). I live in Broome and I've been involved in the campaign since the early days. You've exchanged a few e-mails with my partner Christine who is the office manager with Environs Kimberley. Hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers, Shane

PS: If you or any of your friends are up this way I'd be happy to give them a guided tour of the stunning coast up to Walmadan, James Price Point.
